What Is BIS CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme)?
The BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) is a certification program administered by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). It ensures that specified electronic and IT products comply with Indian safety standards (IS) before they can be sold in India.

What Is WPC/ETA Approval?
The Wireless Planning & Coordination (WPC) Wing is the national radio regulatory authority of India, operating under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications. Any product that uses radio frequency spectrum must be approved by the WPC Wing before it can be imported, manufactured, or sold in India.
For most low-power, license-exempt wireless devices, this approval is issued as an ETA (Equipment Type Approval) certificate. An ETA confirms that a product operates within permitted frequency bands (such as the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz de-licensed bands) and complies with Indian spectrum regulations, so it will not interfere with other communication systems.
Any wireless-enabled product using radio frequency — Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RFID, or IoT communication — requires WPC/ETA approval prior to import into India. Products without valid ETA approval can face detention or delays at Indian customs.

Approval Process Works
- RF testing — Your product is tested for radio-frequency compliance at an accredited laboratory to produce an RF Test Report.
- Documentation — We compile technical details, company information, and required supporting documents.
- Application filing — The application is submitted on the SARAL Sanchar portal with the applicable fees.
- WPC scrutiny & approval — The WPC Wing reviews the application and verifies RF compliance.
- ETA certificate granted — Once approved, the ETA certificate allows you to legally import and sell your product in India.
