Partial amendment to the Ordinance for the Enforcement of the Radio Act for Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Systems in vehicles

Japan has adopted a partial amendment to the Ordinance for the Enforcement of the Radio Act, detailing the frequency specifications for Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Systems in vehicles.

Under the newly revised Ordinance and accompanying public notice, a frequency band from 433.795 MHz to 434.045 MHz has been classified as a Specified Low Power Radio Station, specifically for TPMS and RKE systems.

In terms of transmission limits, the total transmission time is capped at 360 seconds per hour. For periodic transmissions, emissions must stop within one second after sending a signal, and there must be a pause of at least one millisecond before resuming transmission.

The new rules governing TPMS and RKE systems are detailed in the updated Ordinance on Radio Equipment and related public notice.

Japan is making these regulatory updates for several reasons:

– The international adoption of the 433 MHz band for TPMS and RKE systems is on the rise.

– This frequency has established itself as a global standard for these technologies.

– Anticipated domestic demand for these systems in Japan is expected to increase.

The adoption of these amendments and the new regulations took effect on February 27, 2025.
